GYPSY BLOG - OUT AND ABOUT
November 26 - HAPPY THANKSGIVING USA!
I'm thankful for many good things in my life: friends, family, the opportunity to do something I enjoy as a career, good health, and my furry menagerie.
It's great to share my Thanksgiving meal with my guests, Santa Fe, NM visitors (and world travelers), Bob and Lena Mann. On the menu, local and regional foods to give them a taste of North Carolina's best.
Have a safe and very happy holiday.
November 15 - Old Salem (again)
There are many reasons I love going to Old Salem, the costumed people in the village shops rank high on the list. It's one of my favorite places in North Carolina to take visitors, and it always gets rave reviews.
If you haven't been to Old Salem, the historic section of Winston-Salem, I highly recommend that you check it out. Even if you have been before, go again. I always find something new to love about it whenever I go (and I go often).
This trip was with a good friend who was here from Richmond, visiting family in Mebane. The weather was perfect, temperature great for walking around town, and we lucked out to see a military (Confederate) regiment re-enactment happening while we were there.
No trip to Old Salem is complete without picking up some of the famous baked goods, made from original Moravian recipes. Read about Winkler's bakery in Old Salem HERE

November 13 - Happy Birthday Anthony Battilana!
Birthdays are always special, even more when there are fun things to do. Anthony celebrates his birthday by checking out an exhibit at the Museum of Life and Science in Durham.
The museum, located at 433 West Murray Avenue, is a kid-friendly place with many hands-on exhibits for all to try. Read more about it HERE
November 6, 2009 - NaNoWriMo
Apologies for sparse posts this month. November is the official month for National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo, a month long writefest beginning on the first. By month's end, participants will have a first draft of their novel complete (minimum of 50,000 words).
In spite of already juggling several projects, I decided to give NaNoWriMo a go (my first year participating). Sure, you can set such a goal at any time of the year, but knowing that thousands of other writers are doing it simultaneously gives it an added rush. Plus, there is a lot of encouragement and support. Check it out at: http://nanowrimo.org
