December 25 - MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Apologies to readers for my lack of entries and updates.  I've been ill most of this month, battling the flu, among other things.  While I'm still not up to par, I did manage to get out and about last night in Durham to take a few holiday snaps (don't worry, I was tracking Santa with NORAD in order to be home fast asleep by the time he arrived in North Carolina).

I was pleasantly surprised this year to see so many homes decorated with holiday lights and displays.  Much more than I have seen in the years since moving here from the Great White North.  I thought that the lack of snow, which is considerable compared to Central and Northern NY, might have contributed to less decorating in the Sunny South.  This year proved that theory wrong - and boy, was I glad!

Although there were many great places to choose from, I have to say that my favorite is a home that I found after taking a wrong turn.  It is on Stadium Drive in Durham, between Duke and Carver Streets.  Too bad I only had a still camera (and not my better one at that).  There was holiday music playing at the house through a hidden speaker (photo shows only the house - the yard has quite a display too).  It was so grand that people were bringing their kids down the street for the experience.  Kudos to the home owners with the holiday spirit!  You gave many people, including me, a real treat.

Wishing all of you a safe, happy holiday!

 December 1 - 2010 Calendars are Available!

This year I have selected twelve photographs, taken during my travels throughout the state, that represented North Carolina at various times of the year, and put together a calendar for 2010.  Photos were taken in Old Salem, Asheville, Charlotte, Carolina Beach, and other parts of the state.  The calendar is available from Lulu publishers in Morrisville, NC.

I also took a series of photos of mushrooms found in the Piedmont region of North Carolina and created a 2010 calendar for fans of fungi (like me), also available from Lulu.  I was amazed at the wide variety of mushrooms growing in our wild.  They make lovely subjects.

A third 2010 calendar offereing is a series of photos from a hauntingly beautiful, serene place in New Mexico.  Kasha Katuwe, Tent Rocks National Monument is best experienced in person as no photo or film can beat the actual site.  However, I selected twelve gorgeous photos representing this beautiful land for my third calendar, also published through Lulu.

To preview or order a calendar or photo print, Click on the image above.  As it it my first foray into calendar production, I would love to have your feedback.
